Two slots or long format, zippered coin pocket, RFID protection: our wallets are chosen based on the number of cards to fit and the leather, smooth cowhide for patina or grained for durability.
A wallet is chosen based on three criteria: the number of card slots, the presence of a coin pocket, and the format, whether compact or Italian-style. Our category features models made of cowhide leather, grained leather, and coated canvas, ranging from flat billfolds to zipped wallets.
First, count what you really carry: debit card, health card, building pass, driving licence. Compact wallets with three folds provide the most slots but can bulk up in your back pocket; the two-fold format stays flat and meets everyday needs. A full-width banknote compartment prevents folding notes, while a zipped coin pocket stops them from escaping. Models with RFID protection add shielding on the card compartment, which is useful if you have multiple contactless cards and key fobs.
A well-finished full-grain leather wallet can be recognised by its painted edge, regular stitching, and the absence of visible synthetic lining. Smooth cowhide develops a clear patina but retains marks; grained leather, being more textured, is more forgiving of pocket wear. In the luxury segment, a wallet is judged by the finesse of the edge and the flexibility of the central hinge, not by the logo. Condition the leather twice a year with a clear cream and avoid overloading the card compartment: it is this that distorts the fold.
Wallets fall into three main categories: the long accordion-style, which holds banknotes without folding them and serves as a pocket in a small bag; the compact flap wallet, which fits in your hand; and the zipped wallet, which closes all in one motion. The choice mainly depends on the bag, as a long model doesn't fit well in a small crossbody. For coins, the accordion pocket can be emptied with one hand, while the flat pocket is sleeker. Compact wallets adopt these same closures in a smaller format, with a narrower banknote compartment.
The brands of wallets in our selection range from the French leatherworker to fashion brands: Le Tanneur cowhide wallets, Quiksilver canvas wallets, Guess and Eastpak among the two.
