Our category brings together laptop bags, from slim 13-inch briefcases to 17-inch expandable formats. Leather, ballistic nylon or coated canvas, padded compartment and trolley strap.
A laptop bag carries the machine flat, by hand or across the shoulder, in a padded compartment separate from documents. It’s chosen based on the screen size, from 13 to 17 inches, the material, leather, nylon or coated fabric, and the space available around the main compartment.
The size indicated by the manufacturer isn’t enough; a thick chassis and an ultraportable of the same screen size don’t take up the same space. Measure the width, height, and thickness of the machine, including the charger if you’re carrying it, then compare these three dimensions to the padded compartment described on the product sheet. Our laptop bags cover sizes from 13 to 17 inches. A 17-inch laptop bag needs a gusset and a padded shoulder strap, otherwise all the weight will be on one shoulder.
A leather laptop bag looks formal for client meetings and ages well, but it absorbs moisture and is heavier than fabric. Ballistic nylon and coated polyester dry quickly, can be wiped with a cloth, and withstand the train, bike, and floors of waiting rooms. Coated fabric strikes a balance with a matte look, easy maintenance, and low weight.
The format mainly changes the silhouette. A thin laptop bag is recognized by a shorter shoulder strap, a width reduced to the bare minimum, and finishes that make it look more like a shoulder bag. Unisex models in fabric take the opposite approach, focusing on volume, with two front pockets for a notebook, mouse, and cables. In both cases, check that the device compartment closes properly; an open flap lets the screen slide out when you lean over. Our laptop bags are divided between these two families, from slim document holders to gusseted formats.
