The travelite suitcases cover trips of two days just like those of two weeks, available in soft fabric or hard shell. Cabin, medium, and large sizes: the criteria to ensure you choose the right volume.
Suitcases travelite are chosen based on three points: size, cabin, medium or large, material, soft fabric or hard shell, and the number of wheels. The empty weight then differentiates two models of volume with the same capacity, as every kilo of luggage means a kilo less of items you can take within the same allowance.
Before buying, measure the height, width and depth of the model, then compare these measurements with the rules of the airline you fly with most often, as they are not the same from one carrier to another. A medium suitcase travelite is enough for a week's worth for one person, while the large size can hold two weeks or the laundry for an entire family.
The fabric allows for over-packing, fits into a fully loaded boot and offers external pockets for a laptop or a folder. The shell better protects glassware and fragile souvenirs, and closes with a double zipper. On an expandable suitcase travelite, the gusset adds a few centimetres for the return, which is handy when coming back with more than you took, provided you stay within the cabin size.
The interior decides the condition of your belongings upon arrival. Cross straps, zipped divider, separate shoe pocket: these keep the contents from shifting around. Also, check how the wheels are attached, ideally screwed to a plate rather than riveted directly to the shell, as they are the ones that take the hits on curbs.
